Pools and Recreation
Each
village has one quiet pool with the exception of Trinidad that has two.
There's a large Spanish fort-themed pool with water slide, wading pool,
and whirlpool at Old Port Royale which is the main activities area.
The villages surround a 42-acre lake. In the midst of the lake,
you'll find Parrot Cay Island. As the name suggests, the island is stocked
with an aviary of colorful tropical birds. As you meander along this 1 ½
acre island on the nature trails, you will enjoy the peaceful, relaxing
ambiance commonly found in the Caribbean. A large playground for the
children is found here as well. The island is connected to the mainland by
footbridges.
A
variety of watercraft and bicycles are available for rent at the Barefoot
Bay Marina (located at OPR). These include Sea Raycer, sailboats, paddle
boats, canoes and pontoon boats. The Sea Raycer can accommodate a maximum
load of 300 lb. and typically hold one adult or an adult with a child.
Pontoon boats can accommodate up to eight adults. Don't plan on sailing
off in one of these boats to Studios or the Magic Kingdom; the lake
doesn't extend beyond the grounds of the resort. Bicycles are also
available for rent, adjacent to the boat dock. The 1.4-mile promenade
around the lake is great for bicycling. Also a lot of fun are the Surrey
bicycles designed to accommodate parties of 2 to 4. Motorboat captains
must be at least 12 years old and 5' tall (for Sea Raycers) or 18 years
old (for canopy and pontoon boats). Surrey bicycle drivers must be 18
years old.
TIPS: Guests must bring the towels from their rooms for use at the pool and
call housekeeping for additional towels for your room to replenish your
supply. Life jackets are provided free of charge and can be picked up at
the pool area. Check out the back of the lifeguard stands for park hours
and weather information.
Each
village has a beautiful, clean, white sandy beach on the lake. (After all,
this is the Caribbean *Beach* resort!) Beaches have lounge chairs and very
comfortable hammocks. Swimming is not allowed in the lake; however, you
are invited to get wet at the adjacent village pools. Small playgrounds
are located on the village beaches of Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad
South.
